Our Classes

Classes are held in the Shirley/Richmond area of Christchurch New Zealand. We offer classes for all levels beginner to Advanced from ages 5yrs to Adult. Classes include Musical Theatre, Tap, Jazz, Singing, Drama, basic Ballet, Contemporary and Hip hop. We are performance focused and do not offer exams.

Classes are designed to be fun, energetic, encouraging and supportive while discipline, focus and respect is expected from every student. This is a place of enjoyment and creativity but also a place of hard work, physically and mentally! Most of our classes also include fitness, strength and stretching which is important to the development of a dancer/Performer.

Colette is my heroine because she never gives up on me if I'm having trouble in class or not understanding the choreography. Colette is a very enjoyable, funny, and exciting teacher, because of her exhilarating dances she makes up and the moves that she throws at me. As soon as you walk into class you can hear the loud booming music in your ears then you know its going to be a fantastic afternoon.

Studio 42 has provided the perfect outlet for my daughter to express herself artistically. Everything she does is greeted with a warm smile and encouraging words even when there have been those moments when she feels she can't do it right.

Colette and her team of wonderful instructors provide quality dance routines, choreography and skills while maintaining a level of fun and professionalism. It's a great atmosphere on performance day. The students pull together well to help each other and as a result of Colette's dedication we get to see a phenomenal production that involves many aspect of dance.

As a parent I would highly recommend Studio 42 as a professional, exciting and modern dance company to anyone of any age, gender, or dance ability.

Is a popular form of dance which has developed from classical, modern and jazz styles, it has since continued to incorporate elements from many different styles of dance. Contemporary students need to not only have a good understanding of Ballet/Jazz technique but be at a maturity level to understand and express this style with emotion and grace or quirky awkwardness. This genre is unpredictable, artistic and inspiring. It continues to push the artistic boundaries.

It is currently compulsory for all Contemporary students under 18yrs to attend Ballet - unless they already have previous training.

I started dancing with Colette three years ago and have loved every moment of it! Colette is an amazing teacher and director, she puts 110% into her students and dance school. Her choreography is always fun, diverse and tailored to students abilities.

As a beginner adult student I always felt comfortable trying new dances and techniques. When I started I never thought I would be putting my dancing on show, but Colette puts together an amazing end of year show where we all have the opportunity to perform in our classes giving each student a goal to work towards.

I look forward to dance each week as it challenges me physically, mentally and I have made some amazing friends who I love dancing with! I could not have found a better dance school to be a part of!
